Easy-to-Understand Card Describes New Unit Structures

A card explaining various unit structures for the new Cub Scout Family Scouting model and upcoming model for Scouts BSA has been created for your use in easily explaining our programs and recruiting new families.

Print it, share it, and/or use it as a digital infographic: https://scouting.webdamdb.com/bp/#/folder/4402591/ (Click "Scouts BSA Cub Scout Message Card.pdf") A copy is also attached.

New Family Scouting FAQ Now Available

A new Family Scouting frequently asked questions document is now available on the Family Scouting page of scouting.org (and attached as a PDF document).

The document features a range of information on Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA, including:

  • Overview and rationale
  • Chartered organizations
  • Cub Scouts
  • Boy Scouts/Scouts BSA
  • Order of the Arrow
  • Adult supervision and Youth Protection

BeAScout.org Relaunched With Improved User Experience

BeAScout.org has been relaunched with an improved user experience including faster search results, as well as tighter content focus.

The biggest pain-point expressed by families searching for local Scouting information was slow BeAScout is at displaying results of a ZIP Code search. The new site is a significant improvement in this area, with search results typically displayed in under 3 seconds, compared to almost 14 seconds on the old platform. And, while the site is optimized for mobile devices, it works great on desktop computers, too.

Another finding from user feedback concerned new families’  ability to simply find a unit and sign up, if possible. As a result, the site content is more focused on the “how” of joining than the “why,” and getting customers to the information they want quickly.

New Scouting families can filter search results in a variety of ways, including showing only units accepting online registration, or just dens for boys or girls, or just Sea Scout ships. Or, even units accepting online applications, and dens for boys or girls and Sea Scout ships all at the same time.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, look for more feedback-based improvements in the coming weeks and months.

Attention Units:  Instructions for updating your Unit Pin

Follow these easy steps:

  1. Go to my.scouting.org and log in.
  2. Select Menu, Select Legacy Web Tools, Select BeAScout
  3. Select Unit Pin Management, use the drop-down menu to select your unit
  4. Change your Unit Pin Mode from Council to Unit, change your pin status to active, and then set your apply status to active.  Update your meeting information, contact information, and additional information as needed.
  5. SAVE ALL CHANGES

If you would like your new parent to receive an automated welcome email message to go along with the Chief Scout Executive's message, you may do so by setting your unit's configurations:

Click on Menu,  Select Unit Number and select Organization Manager, then settings and select opt-in and type your message, click commit to save.  From the Organization Manager, you will also be able to indicate if your Pack will be welcoming girls to your Pack.

Next, you need the URL or QR code to send your parents to register online. This can be accessed by clicking on Menu, select your unit, select Invitation Manager from the drop-down list, click on URL at the top right-hand side of the screen.  Copy the URL to paste on your unit's website or in an email or take a photo of the QR code or print it on a flyer for parents to scan.

The Invitation Manager is also used to review and approve submitted online applications.
