Family Scouting Welcome Day:  Saturday, August 4

Family Scouting Welcome Day on Saturday, August 4!

Special Note: This event does not replace nor alter upcoming School Night for Scouting recruitment events nor community recruitment events that we encourage all Cub Scout Packs to participate in.

Effective August 1, 2018, the Old North State Council will launch the Family Scouting program serving boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. We are excited to serve an ever-increasing number of youth and families this summer/fall and share the wonderful experiences that come from Cub Scouting!

If your Pack will be serving both boys and girls this summer/fall, please make plans to attend “Family Scouting Welcome Day” on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 8:00am (set-up) to 12:00pm. There will be four sites (listed below) for your Pack to choose from. We invite you to attend this special event with at least two adult leaders (and current Scouts, too, if possible), set-up an information table and fun activity, and potentially enroll new Scouting families into your program!

The four locations for the “Family Scouting Welcome Day” are:

  1. Old North State Council office, 1405 Westover Terrace, Greensboro. Contact person: Ed Martin. Email ed.martin@scouting.org by Aug. 1 if your Pack plans to attend this location.
  2. Woodfield Scout Preservation, 491 Woodfield Scout Trail, Asheboro. Contact person: Andrew Oliver. Email Andrew.Oliver@scouting.org by Aug. 1 if your Pack plans to attend this location.
  3. Cherokee Scout Reservation, 3269 Boy Scout Camp Road, Yanceyville. Contact person: Sam Putnam. Email sam.putnam@scouting.org by Aug. 1 if your Pack plans to attend this location.
  4. Bellemont United Methodist Church, 4039 Markwood Road, Burlington. Contact person: Jim Allegretto. Email jim.allegretto@scouting.org by Aug. 1 if your Pack plans to attend this location in Burlington.

All four sites hosting “Family Scouting Welcome Day” will operate under this format. Note: camp locations will be conducive to outdoor activities versus the Council office location setting indoors:

  • Arrive at 8:00am to set up your table and fun activity (please bring supplies for new Scouting families)
  • Pack representatives should bring copies of your Scouting calendar, contact information for current Pack leadership, and other key information you wish to share (i.e. upcoming special events)
  • The event is an Open House format: There’s not a set schedule of activities.
  • Potential new Scouting families can visit any time between 8:30am and 12:00pm, learn more about Scouting for their children/family and hopefully get registered for a great fall season!
  • Council office will provide refreshments for Pack representatives and our new Scouting families at all four locations
  • Council office staff will provide BSA registration forms and assist with the registration process

Be on the lookout for further communication (emails, Facebook, YouTube video) and reminders about the “Family Scouting Welcome Day” on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

  • Free Performance of Tzofim Friendship Caravan August 7

Boy and girl scouts, Tzofim, from Israel return to Greensboro for a free performance at Shiloh Baptist Church located at 1210 S Eugene St, Greensboro, NC 27406 on August 7 at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary.  This exciting group of 16 and 17-year old scouts bring a program of song, dance and cultural exchange appropriate for all ages.

Sponsored by the local Beth David Synagogue community and the Old North State Scoutreach Committee you and your family are invited to meet these young people as they complete their tour of the southeastern United States. This is one of four groups that have toured throughout the United States as part of an annual program to share personal stories and friendship with all.

These scouts, Caravan Dekel, appeared in Greensboro earlier in June making stops at Beth David, Fellowship Presbyterian, Archer Elementary and Abbotswood Assisted Living Center with rave reviews.  The warmth and friendliness shown by these scouts are fine examples of what we hope to create through our programs in the Old North State Council.

The Scoutreach Committee and the Scoutreach program hopes you will enjoy this evening of entertainment as we support the underserved youth throughout our council.  Striving to provide a full scouting experience for all youth is our goal.  Make plans to attend this fun event now!
