Eagle Scout Alumni Breakfast

Are you an Eagle Scout?  We hope you can join us for our annual Eagle Scout Alumni Breakfast on Wednesday, November 7!

Contact Kristina Edmondson at Kristina.edmondson@scouting.org or click here to make your reservation: http://bsaonsc.doubleknot.com/event/annual-eagle-scout-alumni-reunion/2411507

BeAScout.org

We are hearing wonderful things from the Cub Scout Packs using online registration to sign up new Cub Scouts!  Utilizing this handy tool means less time chasing applications, collecting money, and dropping-off applications in-person to the Council Service Center!

To access and implement the online registration system, please follow the steps listed below. Each unit’s Key 3 (unit top leader, committee chairman, and charter organization representative) have access to the system.

Follow these easy steps:

  1. Go to my.scouting.org and log in.
  2. Select Menu, Select Legacy Web Tools, Select BeAScout
  3. Select Unit Pin Management, use the drop-down menu to select your unit
  4. Change your Unit Pin Mode from Council to Unit, change your pin status to active, and then set your apply status to active.  Update your meeting information, contact information, and additional information as needed.
  5. SAVE ALL CHANGES

If you would like your new parent to receive an automated welcome email message to go along with the Chief Scout Executive's message, you may do so by setting your unit's configurations:

1. In my.scouting.org, click on Menu

2. Select Organization Manager, then settings and select opt-in and type your message, click commit to saveFrom the Organization Manager, you will also be able to indicate if your Pack will be welcoming girls to your Pack.

3. Next, get the URL or QR code to send to your parents to register online. This can be accessed by clicking on Menu, select Invitation Manager from the drop-down list, click on URL at the top right-hand side of the screen.  Copy the URL to paste on your unit's website or in an email or take a photo of the QR code or print it on a flyer for parents to scan.

The Invitation Manager is used to review online inquiries from scouts interested in joining your pack.  The Application Manager is used to approve online applications from scouts applying to join your Pack.

If you need assistance with BeAScout, do not hesitate to contact the Council Scout Office.

Youth Protection Training

The health and safety of our Scout family is our greatest priority.  Youth Protection training is one of the most important means of providing that safe environment.  We use our Youth Protection policies and procedures to provide a safe place for our Scouts.  Youth Protection training provides our adult leadership with the knowledge and resources to help achieve that.

BSA went live in February with an all new Youth Protection training program.  The new program is significantly different from the previous program, providing us with new knowledge and tools to help protect our youth.  The Barriers to Abuse, that have been so much a part of our programs for many years,  have been revised considerably, with new policies in place to protect our youth.  The reporting process has also changed somewhat.  We all owe it to our Scouts to know and understand these policies and procedures.

Any registered adult who had not taken the updated Youth Protection training by midnight on September 30, was changed to an expired Youth Protection training status.  Our council percentage of those trained has plummeted from above 95% to only 50%.  Having expired Youth Protection training jeopardizes the adult leader liability insurance.  Adult leaders will be unable to recharter/re-register with their units in 2019 if they are not Youth Protection trained by 2018 year-end.

There have been a number of people who have had issues completing the training online.  This is partly due to the volume of people trying to access the system on September 30 or October 1.  If you were unable to get on at that time, please try again.   Other technological glitches have also created some issues.  If you have any issues completing the training online, please contact BSA Customer Service at 972.580.2489.  They are very helpful and can usually get your issues corrected within just a few minutes.

If general questions about Youth Protection training or issues with completing it, please contact Nita Grubbs at nita.grubbs@scouting.org or at the Scout office at 336.378.9166.

Remember:  YOUth Protection Begins with YOU!

2018 Popcorn Sale

Greetings Kernels,

In this Kernel’s E-Blast, you’ll see some of the most Frequently Asked Questions that I’ve received to date.  Please remember that you can always contact me or your District Executive with any and all questions!

Tomorrow (Friday, October 12) by 12pm we will have a large shipment arrive to restock our various popcorn products, including Unbelievable Butter, Classic Caramel, White Cheddar Cheese, etc. There are a few units  waiting for this order to arrive so they can be fully stocked at Show ‘N’ Sell locations this weekend.  If you are available to be at the Council Office around 12pm on Friday, October 12 to help the office staff move popcorn into the building, we would greatly appreciate it. Normally, the District Executives would handle this important job, but they will all be at Cherokee Scout Reservation providing support to the Council’s annual Sporting Clays Classic fundraising shoot. Once all popcorn is stored in the office, you will have the opportunity to pick-up any additional product you requested.

Yours In Scouting,

Matthew Lanouette | Field Director
