Nominating Committee members appointed to prepare the slate of 2020 Old North State Council Executive Board members

On behalf of Council President Bob Paxton, it is my pleasure to announce the members of the Council’s 2020 Nominating Committee:

  • JD Wooten, current Council Executive Board member. JD will chair this committee.
  • Bob Paxton, 2017-2019 Council Executive Board President
  • Christy Kirksey, Scoutmaster of a Scouts BSA Girl Troop
  • Georgia Taylor, Committee Member of a Scouts BSA Boy Troop
  • Cedric Blade, Commissioner staff member

The Old North State Council Nominating Committee is charged with the following tasks:

  1. Convene in-person to review the current membership of the Executive Board (engagement level; interest; and representation in ethnicity, gender, generation, and vocation)
  2. Make a recommendation of current Executive Board members who should be invited to serve again (1-year renewable term) in 2020
  3. Identify and make a recommendation on the top 3-5 Triad executives/key community leaders that should be approached and personally asked (1-on-1 meetings) to serve on the Old North State Council Executive Board in 2020
  4. Prepare the slate of 2020 Executive Board members to be approved at the Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2020

Scout Executive Ed Martin will serve as staff advisor to the Nominating Committee and provide resources to support the Committee’s deliberations. The first such resource is entitled “The 10 Basic Responsibilities of Executive Board members” and is attached to this email.

The Nominating Committee is seeking recommendations for Executive Board members from our Scouting constituents. Please reference “The 10 Basic Responsibilities of Executive Board members” when considering potential candidates to recommend for Executive Board membership.  To recommend a person for consideration to serve on the 2020 Executive Board, email the person’s name, complete contact information, and a one-page summary of qualifications to Scout Executive Ed Martin at ed.martin@scouting.org All candidates will be shared with the Nominating Committee for review.

To protect the annual Nominating Committee process and avoid potential embarrassment for any nominee, please do not approach nominees regarding service on the Council Executive Board until after all are reviewed by the Nominating Committee. Selected nominees will be contacted individually and asked to serve a one-year term on the Council Executive Board in 2020.

All nominations must be received by Ed Martin no later than 5:00pm EST on Monday, December 2, 2019.
