Updates From Old North State Scout Executive/CEO

Many Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venture Crews, Ships and Exploring remain active, offering meaningful social connections for our young people. Thank you to all our Scouting volunteers and staff for delivering valuable programming to Scouts. I would also like to acknowledge all Scouting leaders and staff that delivered safe, COVID-19 free, and exciting summer camping experiences for 500+ Scouts.

As a new school year begins, so too does our annual fall calendar of Scouting adventure! With health and safety measures continuing to be in place, we are planning to host fall events- both day-long activities and weekend events for the whole family. Events may change if North Carolina COVID-19 response guidelines change. We will keep you posted.

As always, the safety of our Scouts come first. BSA accident and sickness secondary insurance for all registered Scouts and volunteer leaders continues to be provided, including COVID
-19 related issues, if North Carolina guidelines are followed. Currently that means limiting Scouting meetings to 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors, while also following safety precautions such as temperature checks, handwashing, face covers, and social distancing.

Next, a recent series of discussions with a selection of volunteer committees nationwide regarding changes to the BSA older youth programs have concluded. Read here for the results.

In closing, the BSA National organization continues to proceed in Chapter 11 reorganization. This process does not involve Old North State local Scouting programs or operations. Read more about the BSA National process, including compensation and care for past victims of abuse in Scouting as well as our comprehensive youth protection procedures at www.bsarestructuring.org Old North State Council remains committed to the safety of all youth in Scouting. Our programs are safer today than ever before.

Thank you for ALL you do for our Scouts! Let’s make it a great fall season.

Yours in Scouting, Ed Martin
