The Passing of Don Brady: A Great Friend to Local Scouting and Our Community

Our deepest sympathy is with the family of Scouting volunteer and benefactor Don Brady who passed away on June 18, 2021 after a valiant fight against cancer.

Don and his wife Mary Gay were recipients of the James E. West Fellowship Award and Don was the Old North State Council's Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 2018.

Don's passing leaves a void in local Scouting and throughout Greater Greensboro. He was a generous and committed Scouting supporter. His gifts transformed outdoor programming at Cherokee Scout Reservation and established the Brady Family Trade Skills Lab. Don's legacy includes 2 Eagle Scout sons and 4 Eagle Scout grandsons.

Don's word was his bond and you could count on him. He lived a life that honored the Scout Oath and Law. If you were blessed to attend even one business or Scouting function with Don, he epitomized the Scout motto of Be Prepared.

Please read more about Don's life in this Greensboro news article.

Boy Scouts of America Safety Moment:  Hammock Camping

Camping in hammocks has gained in popularity over the last 10 years. More camping equipment manufacturers are offering hammock-style tents as a way to reduce the footprint on a camping area. This is helpful from a Leave No Trace standpoint, however, hammocks are not without their risks.
