WHO MAY ATTEND:  Any registered Adult BSA Leader. This course certifies you as an NRA instructor.

Your Instructor certification does allow you to participate as part of a shooting sports staff at a BSA shooting event and sign up to become a merit badge counselor in the discipline you complete.  

  

NRA PRE-QUALIFICATIONS:  To determine your skill set level, a score of at least 80% must be achieved on a pre-qualification practical exercise test prior to completion of the course. This score is not hard to achieve if you have any previous shooting experience. BIT certification within 24 months.

 

COURSE OFFERING:         

  1. NRA Basic Shooting Course – Prerequisite Specific; either Rifle or Shotgun Friday 8:00 – 6:00pm; Course: Includes Classroom and Range performance.
  2. NRA Basic Instructor Trainer (BIT)- Mandatory w/in 24 months. Saturday 8:00 - 3:00 pm;  Course: Classroom Instruction
  3. Instructor Rating Course per Discipline: 

Saturday 2:30 check-in; 3:00-6:00 pm Course Discipline: Classroom Instruction Sunday 8:00 - 6:00pm, Course Discipline: Range Practical Exercises and Exam

Price includes meals, ammunition, firearm use and classroom materials. These prices are roughly half of the average being charged by public instructors throughout the region for NRA Instructor Rating certification classes.  Participants will be housed in camp tents, if needed, on Friday and Saturday night.

 

Prices do not include NRA membership fees or fees associated with each discipline to be an instructor.  The fees due to the NRA to be registered as an instructor are your financial responsibility. You must pay these fees in order to teach as an NRA Instructor.  Upon completion of your course, you will be directed to pay online directly to the NRA.

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: (Registration Closed: April 10th – Min 5 students, Max 14 Students)

The registration deadline is established to allow us ample time for supplies to arrive. Please contact us with any questions you may have regarding the course. A $75.00 deposit is required with the registration.  Balance is due by April 10th.   Training Guide will be sent via email to all registered participants. Training Guide will include, weekend schedule, food arrangements etc.

Rifle Course

 

This three-day (24hour) instructor development workshop includes; NRA Basic Rifle, NRA Basic Instructor Training, NRA Instructor Rifle Shooting Course and all of the necessary NRA student/instructor guides, as well as guns and ammo.  It also includes 2 meals on Friday, 3 meals on Saturday and 2 meals on Sunday.  This workshop is designed to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, & attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Rifle Course and will be taught by a team of NRA Training Counselors and Instructors.  There is gun handling, shooting, and a written exam that needs to be passed to receive NRA completion credentials.   The deposit of $75.00 is due with your registration and the balance by April 10th.  All checks should be made payable to Old North State Council, BSA and mailed to Rick Dunnuck, 6129 Liberty Rd, Julian NC 27283.  If you already have NRA Basic Rifle and/or NRA Basic Instructor Training within the past 24 months please contact me at 336-404-0524 for adjustments to times and fees.
