A Boy Scout leader must complete the following training courses in order to achieve the status of a Trained Leader:

 Youth Protection Boy Scout Leader Fast Start—available online

 Training—available online

 Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training

 Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills Training will be on November 3 - 4, 2017 at Woodfield West

Instructors will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, work with woods tools, rope skills, plan campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing techniques, nature identification, and outdoor ethics. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve. It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders from your area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders.

WHEN: Friday, November 3rd, 2017 (arrive 5:30 – 6:00 pm) through Saturday, November 4th, 2017 (depart 6:00 pm)

WHERE: Woodfield West; 427 Rush Mt. Rd., Asheboro, NC 27203

COST: $25.00 (includes program materials and meals)

What to bring:

  • Full Field Uniform with scout hat
  • Boy scout Handbook, current
  • Pocketknife
  • First-Aid kit, personal
  • Rain gear
  • Appropriate clothing for the season plus extra emergency clothing
  • Water bottle filled with potable water
  • Flashlight
  • Matches and fire starter
  • Sun protection
  • Compass
  • Backpack or duffle
  • Sleeping bag; sleeping pad
  • Camp chair
  • Eating kit (not disposable) spoon, knife, fork, plate, bowl, cup (important as no disposables will be furnished.
  • Personal items i.e. soap, toothbrush, toothpaste etc.
  • Washcloth and towel
  • Notebook or paper  and Pencil or pen (recommended)
  • Camping Gear (may be borrowed from troop gear or other leaders)
  • Two-person (Max) backpacking tent, with poles, stakes, ground cloths, lines , nylon rope/cord
  • Sections A & B of the Medical form
